Madison Howell

Lawyer

Madison is a Toronto Family Lawyer and Collaborative Practitioner dedicated to the dignified resolution of family disputes. She understands the value in merging strong advocacy with a reasoned, solution-oriented, collaborative approach to assist her clients and their families in building a cohesive, self-determined future.

Prior to joining Resolve Dispute Resolution, Madison was a litigation associate at a national Bay Street firm, representing clients in professional liability and corporate commercial disputes. Her broad general litigation experience spanned from working closely with individual’s who had their professional integrity under scrutiny to large corporate entities facing contractual disputes of high economic value. Such work brought her to representing clients before the Ontario Court of Appeal, Ontario Superior Court, and various tribunals. As a litigator, she developed a keen sense in distilling clients’ interests, analyzing the financial consequences, and devising a responsive litigation strategy. She assisted clients in resolving multi-million dollar disputes in an effective and efficient manner. One that recognized the financial and emotional cost of litigation.

Throughout her time in litigation, Madison learned the ways in which the public and adversarial system often worked contrary to her clients’ interests. In many instances, this brought her to assisting clients in resolving their disputes out of court, through negotiation, mediation, and arbitration. She learned there was a capacity for mutually beneficial, better controlled, and client centred results outside of the traditional system. In her collaborative oriented practice, she seeks to help her clients and their families resolve conflicts in a dignified, empowering, and efficient manner. She is an attentive, empathic listener, who will work closely with you to craft both personalized and creative solutions that will work to best situate you and your family for the future.

Madison is an involved and committed advocate, both in her profession and community. While at law school, she was the recipient of the Dean Ivan C. Rand Society Award and the Rawal Family Scholarship for her academic and leadership achievements. She worked as a Caseworker and Project Coordinator at Community Legal Services, where she advocated for clients in family, criminal defence, small claims, and housing matters. She continued this advocacy work as Co-President of Western’s OUTLaws, where she worked to increase inclusion and visibility of LGBTQIA2S+ students at Western Law.

In her spare time, Madison enjoys hiking, finding beautiful places to eat snacks, cooking for her friends and family, and avoiding single use plastics.
